This edition provides further clarification and advice on the recent policy reforms, as well as some upcoming changes to skilled visa programs. If a nomination application was lodged before 19 April or 1 July 2017 respectively, the list of eligible skilled occupations that was in place at the time of lodgement will still apply to this application. Any related visa application (containing an occupation that has been 'removed from the list' post lodgement of the nomination) can also still be approved, where other requirements are met.

What is a Bridging Visa?

Bridging Visa as the name suggest aims to act as a “bridge” between the last substantive Australian visa held and the subsequent visa application which is yet to be finally determined by the Department of Immigration or the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. Different type of Bridging Visa can be granted depending on applicant’s circumstances at the time they lodge an application for a substantive visa.

Australian visa fees increasing from July 1 2017

Visa Application Charges (VACs) will change from 1 July 2017. Tourist visa fees are going up from $135 to $140 while student visa fees will increase from $550 to $560.Skilled visas – 189 and 190 will increase from existing $3600 to $3670 for primary applicants. Adult dependent and child dependent visa too will go up from $1800 and $900 respectively to $1835 and $920.
